Hidden in Alberta’s Westlock County is the Tawatinaw Valley Ski Hill, a family-oriented winter recreation resort located an hour north of Edmonton. The 140-acre non-profit ski hill, founded in 1967, features 24 downhill trails to suit beginners, intermediates, and experts.
Its 61-meter (200-foot) steeper vertical pitch is easily accessible via two T-bars and a carpet conveyor lift. Freestyle skiers can use the main terrain park with hits, rails, and funboxes, as well as a mini park with a safety zone where they can hone their skills.
In addition to downhill skiing and snowboarding, the Tawatinaw Valley features over 15 kilometers of groomed cross-country ski trails and over 15 kilometers of track-set snowshoe trails, allowing visitors to experience the peaceful beauty of the wooded environment all around them.
The tubing park, accessible via the Red Carpet conveyor lift, is fun for the whole family. The chalet at Tawatinaw Valley Resort is a cozy haven, and the Billy Goat Diner is where folks can enjoy home cooking and become all snuggly after their adventures. Evenings at Tawatinaw Valley, such as trivia night and pub nights, foster a strong sense of community.
Committed to accessibility, the ski hill offers a Canadian Adaptive Snowsports (CADS) program, providing an opportunity for individuals with a disability to participate in a snow sport. Instructional and safety-oriented, the resort offers group and private ski and snowboard instruction, supported by a rental fleet of equipment.
