With a 137-meter vertical drop, Manitoba’s biggest ski area, Thunderhill has 22 downhill runs for beginners, intermediates, and experts. Additionally, a dedicated terrain park provides snowboarders and freestyle skiers a venue to push their limits, and the consistent grooming delivers smooth rides all season long. Two old-school T-bar lifts keep the lines short and the laps long.

On the other hand, the chalet is a comfortable basecamp for skiers to warm up, refuel with a snack, and socialize with locals. On-site rentals allow for effortless travel light, and lessons in skiing and snowboarding can be taken in any age group. Cross-country skiers and snowmobilers are also invited to Thunderhill to visit nearby trails, and during warmer seasons the slopes become a popular destination for mountain bike riding and hiking.

Operated by the Thunderhill Ski Club, this volunteer-supported non-profit hill survives on community spirit and volunteerism and remains affordable and true to itself. Located near the town of Benito and only 25 km south of Swan River, it’s a perfect day’s outing for family groups, social clubs, or a solitary traveler who wants to carve turns under big prairie skies.
